Filling the Gap, It’s in Our DNA
The Jeffery Alan Mitchell Medical Foundation (JAMMF) was founded to honor the life and legacy of Jeffery Mitchell, whose struggles and story continue to inspire a vision for change. JAMMF is committed to bridging harm reduction and clinical care through compassionate outreach, education, and community-based medical support.
About Jeffery
Jeffery Mitchell passed away at age 23 in April 2008. His journey, which was full of struggles with substance use and overdoses, revealed the gaps many individuals face in accessing holistic, compassionate care. It was realized too late that he was using Xanax while participating in the methadone maintenance program, a combination that cost his life.
His story was tragic but instructive. His unmanageable condition underscores how critical it is to support people in every aspect of their health, not just selectively. JAMMF was created so that others navigating similar challenges with healthcare can receive the dignity, support, and care that Jeffery deserved.
Our Story & Vision
Founded by Nicole Mitchell, a healthcare professional and harm reduction advocate, JAMMF merges clinical understanding with grassroots outreach. Nicole draws on experience in emergency medicine, long-term rehabilitation, pain management, and medical outreach to provide safe, practical, and grounded services.
Our vision is ambitious: to expand harm reduction and wellness services across Savannah (and to other areas with minimal free medical resources), to ensure that no one gets left behind because they can’t afford basic healthcare services.
Our Promise & Approach
We don’t just hand out supplies; years of clinical experience and insight are embedded into every kit built. From how woundcare products are selected and packaged, to the details and preparations put into every injectable naloxone, we strive to make JAMMF a reliable point of access to health and wellness for our community.
What sets us apart:
Every item is chosen with safety and usability in mind
We foster trust through nonjudgmental, human-centered service
Partnerships and community leadership guide our growth
Our Impact So Far
Since our first outreach event in August 2025, JAMMF has distributed over 130 outreach kits, including first aid, hygiene, harm reduction, and heat-response supplies, along with additional medical items on an individual basis to soup kitchens and shelters across Savannah. Each kit represents a small but meaningful step toward addressing disparities in healthcare and promoting health and wellness among vulnerable populations.
